New fire safety legislation came into affect on the 1st October 2006. It applies to almost every type of premises other than single private dwellings, including those relating to the voluntary sector and the self employed.
Failure to comply with any duty imposed by The Order is an offence and can lead to enforcement action, fines, even prison. The first step to comply with the law is to carry out a fire risk assessment.
